Week 9: Lesson Planning & Digital Technologies
Week 9 Reading: Where do you think you are situated in the TPACK diagram? Which areas do you need to be building on?
At my current stage as a Permission to Teach Food Technology teacher, I situate myself within the intersection of Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) with developing Technological Knowledge (TK) in the TPACK framework. My strongest areas are content knowledge in Food Technology and pedagogical knowledge, particularly in designing practical and theory lessons that promote student engagement and application of learning. However, my technological knowledge and its seamless integration with pedagogy and content is still emerging rather than fully consolidated.
Roblyer and Doering (2014) emphasise that effective technology integration requires teachers to move beyond basic operational skills and develop an understanding of how technology can transform teaching strategies and learning outcomes. While I am confident using familiar tools such as presentations, learning management systems and collaborative platforms, I am still building confidence in selecting and adapting digital tools that intentionally enhance learning rather than simply support existing practices.
Tondeur et al. (2017) highlight that beginning teachers often experience tension between their pedagogical intentions and their capacity to integrate technology meaningfully. This reflects my own experience, as I am still developing the ability to align technological choices with specific pedagogical goals and curriculum outcomes in both practical and theory-based Food Technology lessons.
To move further into the central TPACK space, I need to continue building Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK) by experimenting with a wide range of discipline-specific digital tools, reflecting on their impact, and refining their use over time. Ongoing professional learning, mentoring, and classroom experience will be essential in strengthening my confidence and fluency across all components of the TPACK framework.
